Possible Causes

Defective evaporator NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Damaged sensor harness from evaporator to control board, Faulty main control board sensor circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Disconnect the wine cooler from mains power before removing any panels. Sharp metal edges are present around the evaporator area; wear cut-resistant gloves.

Diagnostic and repair steps:

  • 1. Access the evaporator compartment: Remove interior shelves and rear liner panel inside the wine compartment to expose the evaporator coil and fan assembly.
  • 2. Locate the evaporator NTC: The sensor is usually clipped to or embedded near the evaporator tubing. Verify it is firmly attached and not hanging loose.
  • 3. Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back toward the cabinet wall and to the main control board. Look for insulation damage, chafing, or signs of moisture intrusion at connectors.
  • 4. Test sensor: With power off, disconnect the sensor from the control board and measure resistance. Compare to Gaggenau’s temperature/resistance chart. Replace the sensor if readings are out of range, open, or shorted.
  • 5. Reattach or replace sensor: If the sensor has come loose, reclip it securely to the evaporator in the original position. If replacing, route the new sensor along the same path and secure with clips or cable ties, avoiding contact with the fan blades.
  • 6. Check control board: If the sensor and wiring are good but E2 persists, the main control board may not be interpreting the signal correctly. Inspect for visible damage; replacement of the board is usually required.
  • 7. Reassemble and test: Reinstall the rear liner panel and shelves, restore power, clear the error (if applicable), and monitor operation through a full cooling cycle.

Professional help: If you suspect a control board failure or see heavy corrosion around the evaporator area, contact an authorized Gaggenau technician.
