Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, Obstructed fan blades by ice or debris, Broken fan wiring harness, Faulty fan driver circuit on main control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before accessing the interior fan. Fan blades and metal edges can be sharp.

How to address E6:

  • 1. Access the evaporator fan: Remove shelves and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator and fan assembly.
  • 2. Check for obstructions: Inspect the fan blades for ice buildup, labels, or loose wiring harnesses blocking rotation. Clear any obstructions and ensure the fan spins freely by hand.
  • 3. Inspect wiring: Follow the fan wires to the connector and then to the control board. Look for pinched, cut, or disconnected wires.
  • 4. Test fan motor: With power off, disconnect the fan and measure resistance across the motor leads. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. If possible, briefly power the fan with a suitable low-voltage test source per specifications.
  • 5. Replace fan motor if defective: Remove mounting screws or clips, swap in the new Gaggenau-specified fan motor, and route wiring away from moving parts.
  • 6. Check control board output: If the fan motor is good but does not receive voltage when the unit calls for cooling, the fan driver on the main control board may be faulty. Replace the board if confirmed.
  • 7. Reassemble and test: Refit the rear panel and shelves, restore power, and verify that the fan runs during cooling and that E6 clears.

Tip: Persistent ice buildup around the fan may indicate an underlying defrost issue that should also be investigated.
