Possible Causes
Failed upper zone thermistor, loose or corroded thermistor connector, damaged upper zone sensor wiring, faulty electronic control board input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the wine cooler before servicing.
- Identify zone: On dual-zone GE wine coolers, E1 typically refers to the upper compartment sensor. Confirm in your user manual if available.
- Remove shelves and panel: Take out upper zone shelves and remove the rear or side interior panel to expose the thermistor clipped to the liner or evaporator cover.
- Check wiring: Inspect the thermistor harness for cuts, pinches, or discoloration. Ensure the connector is fully seated on the harness and not corroded.
- Test sensor: Disconnect the thermistor and measure resistance with a multimeter at room temperature. Compare to GE specifications. Replace the thermistor if readings are open, shorted, or significantly off.
- Control board check: If the thermistor is good, access the main control board and verify the sensor harness is firmly connected. If the board shows burn marks or the code persists with a new sensor, replace the control board.
Restore power and verify that the E1 code clears and the upper zone maintains set temperature.
