Possible Causes

Failed lower zone thermistor, loose lower sensor connector, damaged lower zone harness, defective control board sensor channel

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before opening any panels.

  • Access lower zone: Remove lower compartment shelves and the interior rear panel to locate the lower thermistor, typically clipped near the evaporator or air return.
  • Inspect harness: Look for broken insulation, pinched wires, or moisture damage. Reseat the connector firmly.
  • Measure resistance: With the thermistor unplugged, use a multimeter to check resistance at room temperature. Compare to GE’s thermistor chart. Replace the thermistor if readings are out of spec.
  • Check control board: If the thermistor is within spec, inspect the main control board for damage at the lower sensor input. If damaged or if E2 persists after replacing the thermistor, replace the control board.

After reassembly, restore power and monitor the lower zone temperature for several hours.
