Display shows E1 and the unit does not cool correctly or cycles erratically.

Safety: Unplug the wine cooler before accessing internal components. Sharp metal edges around the evaporator can cause injury—wear cut-resistant gloves.

• Access the evaporator area: Remove interior shelves and the rear inner panel to expose the evaporator (if accessible on your Grundig model).
• Locate the evaporator sensor: It is typically clipped directly to the evaporator coil or mounted nearby in a plastic holder. Check that it is firmly attached and not hanging loose.
• Inspect for ice damage: Look for heavy ice buildup that may have pulled or broken the sensor wires. Carefully defrost using bowls of warm water; do not use sharp tools or hair dryers.
• Check wiring and connector: Follow the sensor cable to the main PCB. Ensure the connector is tight and free of corrosion. Reseat the connector.
• Test the sensor: Measure resistance at room temperature and again after cooling the sensor tip in ice water. The resistance should change smoothly. If open or shorted, replace the sensor.
• Replace evaporator NTC: Install a new Grundig evaporator NTC temperature sensor, clip it securely to the coil, and route the cable away from moving parts and sharp edges.
• Evaluate the PCB: If a known-good sensor still triggers E1, the main control board may be defective and require replacement.
