Steps to address E1:
- Confirm the code: Power cycle the unit (unplug for 5 minutes, then plug in). If E1 reappears, proceed.
- Access the evaporator area: Remove interior shelves and the rear interior panel inside the wine compartment (usually held by Phillips screws). This exposes the evaporator coil and fan.
- Locate the evaporator sensor: Look for a small probe clipped to the evaporator tubing or mounted near the coil, with two thin wires leading back to the cabinet wall.
- Inspect for damage or ice: Check if the sensor is encased in ice or has damaged insulation. If heavily iced, allow the unit to fully defrost (door open, unit unplugged) for several hours, then re-test.
- Check wiring and connector: Trace the sensor wires to the pass-through grommet and then to the main control PCB at the rear. Ensure the connector is tight and not corroded.
- Test the sensor: With a multimeter, measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to typical NTC values (often 5–20 kΩ at 25°C). If the reading is open, shorted, or far out of range, the sensor is defective.
- Replace the sensor: Install a Haier-compatible evaporator NTC sensor. Clip it securely to the same location on the evaporator tubing and ensure good thermal contact. Avoid placing it directly in the airflow of the fan.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall the interior panel and shelves, restore power, and verify that E1 clears and the unit begins normal cooling.
Note: If the sensor tests good but E1 persists, the main control PCB may be faulty and should be evaluated by a professional.
