Display shows E5 and the wine cooler may shut down or fail to cool after running briefly.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Unplug the unit before touching the compressor, fan, or wiring. Components may be hot.
Steps to address E5:
- Check ventilation: Ensure the wine cooler has adequate clearance around the sides, back, and top as specified in the Haier manual. Move it away from walls or heat sources if necessary.
- Clean condenser coils: Remove the rear lower panel to access the condenser. Use a soft brush and vacuum to remove dust and lint from the condenser fins.
- Verify condenser fan operation: With the rear panel off, briefly plug in the unit and observe whether the condenser fan starts when the compressor runs. Unplug again before touching anything.
- Inspect fan motor: If the fan does not run, check for obstructions and spin the blade by hand (with power off). If stiff or seized, the fan motor is likely bad.
- Check compressor start device: With power disconnected, remove the plastic cover on the side of the compressor. Inspect the PTC start relay and overload protector for burn marks or rattling pieces.
- Replace faulty components: Install a Haier-compatible condenser fan motor and/or compressor start relay/overload as needed. Ensure all connections are tight and correctly oriented.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the rear panel, restore power, and monitor operation. The E5 code should clear once the compressor runs without overheating.
Important: If the compressor is extremely hot to the touch and fails to start even with a new start device, the compressor itself may be failing and will require professional sealed-system service.
