Display shows E3 and the compressor or Peltier module may not start or may run erratically.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Always unplug the wine cooler before servicing. E3 is commonly associated with a defrost or high-temperature sensor fault on the evaporator assembly.
- Access the evaporator: Remove interior shelves and the rear inner panel. Carefully disconnect the evaporator fan if attached to the panel.
- Locate the defrost sensor: It may be taped or clipped to the evaporator tubing, sometimes near a defrost heater (if equipped). It is usually a small cylindrical or bead-type sensor with two wires.
- Inspect attachment: Ensure the sensor is firmly in contact with the coil. If it has come loose, reattach it using aluminum foil tape or the original clip.
- Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to other NTC sensors in the unit. If the reading is infinite or near zero, the sensor is defective.
- Replace if faulty: Install a new Hisense-compatible defrost/evaporator NTC sensor. Route the wires along the original path and secure them away from sharp fins and the fan blade.
- Check wiring and PCB: Inspect the harness for cuts or pinched sections where it passes through the liner. At the main PCB, reseat the connector and look for burnt or cracked solder joints.
If E3 persists after sensor and wiring checks, the main control PCB may need replacement by a qualified technician.
