Possible Causes
Failed PTC start relay, Weak compressor, Overheated compressor due to poor ventilation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Unplug the cooler before accessing the compressor.
- Improve ventilation: Ensure there is adequate clearance around the cooler and that the rear is not blocked. Clean dust from the condenser coils and fan.
- Cool down compressor: Allow the unit to sit unplugged for at least 30 minutes to cool the compressor, then plug it back in and listen.
- Inspect start relay: Remove the plastic cover on the side of the compressor and pull off the PTC relay. Shake it gently; if it rattles or shows burn marks, replace it with a hOmeLabs compressor start relay.
- Check overload protector: Inspect the overload device for discoloration or cracking. Replace if suspect.
- Test again: Reassemble and power on. If the compressor still clicks off repeatedly, the compressor itself may be failing and will require professional replacement.
