Possible Causes
Door gasket not sealing, Door frequently opened, Evaporator sensor mispositioned, Blocked drain channel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Unplug the cooler before defrosting or removing panels.
- Manual defrost: Turn off and unplug the unit. Open the door and allow all ice to melt naturally. Use towels to absorb water. Do not use sharp tools to chip ice.
- Check door gasket: Inspect the rubber gasket around the door for tears, warping, or debris. Clean it with warm soapy water and dry. Replace the door gasket if it is damaged or not sealing.
- Verify door alignment: Ensure the door is not sagging. Adjust hinges if necessary so the door closes squarely.
- Inspect evaporator sensor: Remove the rear interior panel and confirm the evaporator sensor is firmly attached to the coil. A loose sensor can cause improper defrost cycles.
- Clear drain channel (if present): Some hOmeLabs models have a small drain hole below the evaporator. Use a soft pipe cleaner or turkey baster with warm water to clear any blockage.
- Reassemble and monitor: After defrosting and corrections, restart the unit and monitor for several days. If frost rapidly returns, a control or sensor issue may require professional diagnosis.
