Possible Causes
Defective evaporator NTC thermistor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Damaged sensor harness due to ice or rubbing on fan, Faulty main control PCB input channel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance before removing rear or internal panels. Edges of metal panels and evaporator fins are sharp.
Steps to address E2:
- Access the evaporator area: Remove internal rear panel inside the wine compartment (usually held by screws). You may need to remove shelves first.
- Locate the evaporator sensor: It is typically clipped to the evaporator coil or inserted into a small well on the evaporator. Follow the thin sensor wire back to the main harness.
- Check for ice buildup: Heavy ice around the sensor can cause incorrect readings. Allow the unit to fully defrost (door open, unplugged, towels to catch water) for several hours, then restart. If E2 returns, continue diagnosis.
- Inspect wiring and clip: Ensure the sensor is firmly clipped to the evaporator and the cable is not cut or chafed by the fan or metal edges.
- Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor from the PCB and measure resistance at room temperature with a multimeter. Compare to Hoover specifications if available. An open or shorted reading indicates a failed sensor.
- Replace the evaporator sensor: If faulty, install a new Hoover-compatible evaporator NTC sensor. Clip it securely to the evaporator in the same position to ensure accurate defrost and temperature control.
- Check PCB if needed: If a known-good sensor still triggers E2, the main control board may be defective and should be replaced by a professional.
