Possible Causes

Failed ambient NTC sensor near condenser, Sensor wiring damaged near compressor compartment, Connector loose on main PCB, Main PCB sensor circuit fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect the wine cooler from mains power before accessing the rear service area.

Steps to resolve E3:

  • Access rear compartment: Move the cooler away from the wall. Remove the lower rear service panel to expose the compressor, condenser, and wiring.
  • Locate ambient sensor: On many Hoover wine coolers, the ambient sensor is clipped near the condenser coil or mounted in the rear air intake area. It will look like a small probe on a thin wire.
  • Inspect sensor and cable: Look for crushed, melted, or cut insulation, especially where the cable passes near the compressor or metal frame.
  • Check connections: Trace the sensor wire to the main control PCB. Ensure the plug is fully seated and free of corrosion or moisture.
  • Test resistance: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance at room temperature. Compare to typical NTC values or Hoover specs. Replace if open, shorted, or far out of range.
  • Replace sensor if needed: Install a Hoover-compatible ambient NTC sensor, routing the cable away from hot or moving components. Secure with cable ties.
  • Evaluate PCB: If a new sensor does not clear E3, the main PCB may be faulty and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
