Door Switch or Door Sensor Fault
Wine cooler displays E8 and the interior light or touch controls may behave erratically, sometimes turning on/off by themselves.

Possible Causes
Failed magnetic reed switch or mechanical door switch, Misaligned door magnet, Broken door switch wiring, Faulty main control board door input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing door trim or accessing switch wiring.
Steps to resolve E8:
- 1. Check door operation: Open and close the door while watching the interior light and listening for beeps. If the cooler does not recognize door open/close, suspect the door switch.
- 2. Identify the switch type: Many Insignia wine coolers use a magnetic reed switch in the cabinet frame and a magnet in the door. Others use a mechanical plunger switch.
- 3. Inspect the magnet and switch: For magnetic types, verify the magnet is still embedded in the door gasket or frame and has not fallen out. For plunger switches, ensure the plunger moves freely and is not stuck.
- 4. Access the switch: Remove the inner trim or small cover where the switch is located. Carefully pull the switch out to expose the wiring.
- 5. Test continuity (advanced): With the unit unplugged, use a multimeter to check the switch. For a reed switch, place a magnet near it and verify it opens/closes electrically. For a plunger switch, press and release while checking continuity.
- 6. Replace the door switch if faulty: Install a new Insignia door switch or reed sensor and reconnect the wiring. Ensure the magnet aligns properly when the door is closed.
- 7. Check wiring and control board: If the switch tests good, inspect the wiring back to the main control board. If wiring is intact, the board's door input circuit may be defective and require board replacement.
Note: A faulty door sensor can also cause the unit to stop cooling if it thinks the door is constantly open.
