Possible Causes
Refrigerant leak in sealed system, Weak or failed compressor, Severely dirty condenser coils, Failed condenser fan motor, Blocked capillary tube or restriction
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before removing panels. Sealed system work (refrigerant) must be performed by an EPA-certified technician.
Steps to respond to H1:
- 1. Confirm door sealing: Check that the door closes fully and the gasket seals all around. Replace a torn or deformed gasket if needed.
- 2. Clean condenser and check fan: Remove the rear lower panel. Clean dust from the condenser coils and verify the condenser fan runs when the compressor is on.
- 3. Check compressor operation: With the unit powered, feel the compressor after 10–15 minutes. It should be warm and vibrating slightly. If it is extremely hot and the cabinet is still warm, there may be a sealed system issue.
- 4. Inspect evaporator frost pattern (advanced): Remove the interior rear panel and observe the evaporator after 15–20 minutes of run time. A healthy system will show a light, even frost across most of the coil. Frost only at the inlet or no frost at all suggests a refrigerant or compressor problem.
- 5. Non-sealed system fixes: If the condenser is clogged or the fan is not running, clean/replace these components and retest. Poor airflow alone can trigger H1.
- 6. Call a professional for sealed system issues: If the compressor runs but cooling is weak and the frost pattern is abnormal, contact a qualified refrigeration technician. They can check refrigerant charge, locate leaks, and test compressor performance.
Note: Do not attempt to puncture or cut refrigerant lines; this is hazardous and will destroy the appliance.
