Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the wine cooler before removing the control panel or display housing.
How to check:
- Confirm environment: Ensure the cooler is not installed in extreme temperatures (e.g., garage below 50°F or above 90°F). Ivation wine coolers are designed for typical indoor conditions.
- Locate the ambient sensor: On many Ivation models, the ambient sensor is near the front control panel or behind a small vent on the cabinet front or side.
- Remove the control panel bezel: Carefully pry or unscrew the front control panel to access the small thermistor connected to the display/control PCB.
- Inspect wiring: Check for broken or pinched wires and ensure the connector is firmly seated on the board.
- Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to Ivation’s thermistor chart. Replace if reading is open, shorted, or far out of range.
- Replace the ambient sensor: Install a compatible Ivation ambient temperature sensor, secure it in its original location, and reconnect to the board.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall the control panel, plug the unit back in, and verify that E3 is cleared.
When to seek service: If a known-good sensor still results in E3, the display/control PCB is likely faulty and should be replaced by a technician.
