Possible Causes
Failed evaporator thermistor, Thermistor dislodged from evaporator coil, Damaged thermistor wiring harness, Faulty main control board sensor circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Always disconnect power before removing interior panels or touching wiring.
Steps to diagnose and correct:
- Reset control: Unplug the unit for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in. If E2 reappears, proceed.
- Locate evaporator sensor: Remove interior shelves and the rear liner panel inside the cooled compartment. The evaporator thermistor is usually clipped to the evaporator tubing or mounted near the coil.
- Check sensor placement: Ensure the thermistor is firmly clipped to the evaporator coil and not hanging loose. A loose sensor can cause incorrect readings and E2 errors.
- Inspect wiring: Trace the sensor wires to the main control board at the back of the unit. Look for chafed insulation, broken conductors, or loose connectors. Repair or reseat as needed.
- Measure resistance: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the thermistor and measure its resistance at current temperature. Compare to JennAir specifications (typically several kΩ at room temperature). Replace if open, shorted, or far out of spec.
- Replace thermistor: Install a new OEM evaporator thermistor, route the harness away from sharp edges, and secure with clips or zip ties.
- Control board evaluation: If a new sensor and good wiring still result in E2, the main control board may be defective and should be replaced by a professional.
