Possible Causes
Failed evaporator fan motor, Obstructed fan blade, Loose or damaged fan wiring, Faulty main control board fan driver
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before removing interior panels or touching the fan assembly.
Steps to resolve:
- Check for airflow: With the door closed and unit running (before unplugging), listen for the interior fan. Lack of airflow or unusual noise suggests a fan issue.
- Access the fan: Remove shelves and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator fan assembly.
- Inspect for obstructions: Look for ice buildup, labels, or debris blocking the fan blade. Clear any obstruction and ensure the blade spins freely by hand.
- Check wiring: Inspect the fan motor connector and harness for loose plugs or damaged wires. Reseat connectors firmly.
- Test fan motor: With the fan disconnected and unit unplugged, measure motor winding resistance. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. If comfortable and safe, you can briefly power the fan with a matching low-voltage source (if DC) or mains (if AC-rated) to confirm operation—only if you are qualified to do so.
- Replace fan motor: If the motor is defective, install a new OEM JennAir evaporator fan motor and reassemble the shroud and panel.
- Control board: If the fan tests good but never receives power, the main control board may have a failed fan driver and should be replaced by a technician.
