• Listen for fan operation: With the door closed and unit running (before unplugging), listen for the evaporator fan. If silent or noisy, suspect a fan issue.
• Access the fan: Unplug the unit. Remove interior shelves and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator coil and fan assembly.
• Inspect the fan: Check for ice buildup, debris, or wiring harnesses contacting the blades. Spin the fan by hand; it should rotate freely without grinding.
• Check wiring: Inspect the fan motor wires for cuts, burns, or loose connectors. Reseat the connector at the fan and at the control board if accessible.
• Test the fan motor: Use a multimeter to check for appropriate resistance across the fan motor leads (not open or shorted). If you have access to the wiring diagram, verify supply voltage when the unit is powered (this step should be done only by someone comfortable working with live circuits).
• Replace if faulty: If the motor is seized, noisy, or electrically open, replace the evaporator fan motor with a compatible Kenmore part. Transfer the fan blade to the new motor if it is a separate piece.
• Reassemble and test: Reinstall the interior panel and shelves, restore power, and confirm that the fan runs quietly and E6 clears.

Note: If the fan tests good but does not receive power, the main control board or wiring harness may be at fault and should be checked by a technician.
