Possible Causes

Open or shorted evaporator thermistor, Damaged thermistor wiring harness, Corroded thermistor connector on main control board, Failed main control board temperature input circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the wine cooler or switch off the dedicated circuit breaker before removing any panels. Do not work on live circuits.

This code typically indicates a problem with the cabinet/evaporator temperature sensor.

  • Step 1 – Power reset: Unplug the unit for 5 minutes, then plug back in. If E1 returns within a few minutes, continue.
  • Step 2 – Inspect thermistor location: Open the door and locate the small plastic sensor cover on the rear or side wall (often near the evaporator cover). Check for ice buildup or moisture. If iced over, fully defrost the unit for 24 hours with the door open and then test again.
  • Step 3 – Check wiring: Remove the interior shelves, then remove the rear interior panel (evaporator cover). Locate the thermistor clipped to the evaporator or cabinet wall. Inspect the wires for cuts, pinches, or discoloration. Reseat the connector at the sensor and at the main control board (usually behind the lower rear service panel).
  • Step 4 – Test thermistor (advanced DIY): With the unit unplugged, disconnect the thermistor and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to a standard NTC curve (commonly ~10kΩ at 77°F/25°C). If reading is open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the sensor.
  • Step 5 – Replace faulty part: If wiring is intact and resistance is incorrect, replace the temperature sensor. If the sensor tests good but E1 persists, the main control board temperature input may be defective and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
