E13
KitchenAid
High Ambient Temperature / Overheat Protection Fault
Wine cooler displays E13 and may shut down cooling during high ambient temperatures

Possible Causes
Blocked condenser airflow, Extremely high room temperature, Failed condenser fan, Overheating compressor triggering thermal protection
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before cleaning coils or accessing the rear compartment.
E13 is associated with overheat or high ambient conditions.
- Step 1 – Check installation: Ensure the wine cooler has proper clearance around the sides, top, and back as specified in the KitchenAid installation guide. Do not enclose it tightly without ventilation.
- Step 2 – Measure room temperature: If the room is above 90°F (32°C), the unit may struggle and trigger protection. Improve room cooling or relocate the unit.
- Step 3 – Clean condenser: Remove the rear lower panel and vacuum the condenser coil thoroughly. Clean any dust from the condenser fan blades.
- Step 4 – Verify condenser fan operation: Briefly power the unit and confirm the condenser fan runs whenever the compressor runs. If not, test and replace the fan motor as needed.
- Step 5 – Allow cool-down: After cleaning and ensuring airflow, leave the unit unplugged for 30 minutes to allow the compressor overload to reset, then restart.
