Possible Causes
Stuck or broken air damper motor, Obstructed air channels between zones, Failed damper position sensor, Control board damper output failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before removing interior panels. Avoid forcing plastic dampers; they can break easily.
E16 is associated with the air damper that regulates airflow between zones.
- Step 1 – Identify affected zone: Determine whether the upper or lower zone is not reaching set temperature.
- Step 2 – Access damper: Remove shelves and interior trim near the partition between zones. Locate the damper assembly (often behind a small grille).
- Step 3 – Inspect for blockage: Check for bottles, packaging, or ice blocking the air passages or damper movement. Clear any obstructions.
- Step 4 – Test damper movement: With power briefly restored, change the temperature setting significantly and listen/feel for damper movement. Then unplug again.
- Step 5 – Replace damper: If the damper motor does not move or is noisy, replace the damper assembly. Ensure the gasket seals properly around the opening.
- Step 6 – Control board: If a new damper does not operate and wiring is intact, the main control board damper output may be faulty and should be replaced by a technician.
