Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before touching the compressor or electrical components. The compressor can be very hot.
Steps:
- 1. Check ventilation: Ensure the wine cooler has adequate clearance around the sides and back as specified by La Sommeliere. Clean any dust from the rear grille and condenser coil using a soft brush or vacuum.
- 2. Verify power supply: Plug the unit directly into a grounded wall outlet (no extension cords). Confirm voltage is within local standards using a multimeter if available.
- 3. Inspect compressor area: Remove the rear lower service panel to access the compressor. Look for the PTC start relay and overload protector attached to the compressor terminals.
- 4. Check for overheating: If the compressor is extremely hot, allow it to cool for 30–60 minutes with power disconnected. After cooling, restore power and see if E5 clears.
- 5. Test/replace start components: Gently remove the PTC relay and overload protector. Shake the PTC; if it rattles or shows burn marks, replace it with a compatible La Sommeliere compressor start relay/overload assembly.
- 6. Inspect wiring: Ensure all wires to the compressor and relay are tight and not burnt. Repair or replace any damaged connectors.
- 7. Reassemble and test: Refit the rear panel, restore power, and monitor compressor start-up. If E5 persists and the compressor hums then clicks off, the compressor itself may be mechanically locked and require professional replacement.
Warning: Do not attempt to open the sealed refrigeration system; this must be done only by a certified refrigeration technician.
