Wine cooler displays E6 and the internal fan may not run; cooling is weak or uneven.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before accessing the fan. Fan blades can start unexpectedly if power is applied.
Steps:
- 1. Access the fan: Remove internal shelves and the rear inner panel to expose the evaporator and fan assembly.
- 2. Check for ice or obstruction: Inspect the fan blades for ice buildup, labels, or wiring obstructing rotation. Manually spin the blades; they should turn freely. If iced, defrost the unit fully by unplugging and leaving doors open until all ice melts.
- 3. Inspect wiring: Verify that the fan connector is firmly seated on the harness and that no wires are cut or pinched.
- 4. Test fan voltage: With the unit powered and calling for cooling (only if you are competent and using proper precautions), measure DC voltage at the fan connector. Many La Sommeliere fans are 12V or 24V DC. If correct voltage is present but the fan does not run, the motor is faulty.
- 5. Replace fan motor: Order a compatible La Sommeliere evaporator fan motor. Remove the old fan (usually 2–4 screws), transfer any brackets or grommets, install the new motor, and reconnect the wiring.
- 6. Reassemble and test: Refit the rear panel, restore power, and confirm that the fan runs when the compressor is on and that E6 clears.
Note: If no voltage is present at the fan connector, the main control board or wiring harness may be defective and should be checked by a technician.
