Possible Causes
Failed compressor start relay, Open overload protector, Faulty main control board relay, Broken wiring to compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before accessing the compressor compartment.
Steps:
- 1. Listen for sounds: When the unit calls for cooling, you should hear a soft click and then a steady hum from the compressor. If you hear only a click or nothing, proceed.
- 2. Access compressor: Remove the rear lower panel to expose the compressor, start relay, and overload protector.
- 3. Inspect start components: Remove the plastic cover on the compressor terminals. Gently pull off the start relay and overload. Check for burn marks, melted plastic, or rattling (PTC relay).
- 4. Test continuity: With a multimeter, test the overload protector and relay for continuity according to their specifications. Replace if open or obviously damaged.
- 5. Replace assembly: Install a new La Sommeliere compressor start relay and overload kit, ensuring correct orientation on the compressor pins.
- 6. Check wiring: Verify that all wires are firmly connected and not broken.
- 7. Test: Reassemble, restore power, and observe whether the compressor starts and cooling resumes.
Note: If the compressor still does not start and draws locked-rotor current, the compressor itself may be defective and require professional replacement.
