Wine cooler shows E3 and interior light or fan may behave erratically; temperature control may be locked or unresponsive.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the appliance before removing any control panel or trim pieces. Avoid static discharge when handling the control board.
How to troubleshoot:
- 1. Locate ambient sensor: On many LG wine coolers, the ambient sensor is near the front grille or air intake, sometimes behind the kick plate or control panel.
- 2. Visual inspection: Remove the kick plate or front trim. Look for a small sensor probe or plastic-encased thermistor. Check that it is not broken, crushed, or hanging loose.
- 3. Check wiring: Follow the sensor wires to the main control board. Ensure connectors are fully seated and free of corrosion.
- 4. Measure resistance: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to LG's NTC chart if available. Replace if reading is open, shorted, or clearly abnormal.
- 5. Reinstall and test: After replacing the sensor, restore power and clear the error by unplugging for 5 minutes. Verify that E3 does not return and that temperature controls respond normally.
- 6. Control board check: If a known-good sensor still results in E3, the main PCB may have a failed sensor input circuit. Replacement of the board is required.
Note: Do not relocate the ambient sensor; its position is calibrated for accurate temperature control.
