Possible Causes
Defective defrost heater or thermistor (auto-defrost models), Door gasket not sealing, Door frequently opened or left ajar, Blocked interior airflow around evaporator
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before defrosting or removing panels. Do not use sharp tools to chip ice.
Steps:
- Manual defrost: Remove all bottles and shelves. Unplug the cooler and leave the door open until all ice melts. Use towels to absorb water.
- Check door gasket: Inspect the gasket for tears, warping, or debris. Close the door on a sheet of paper; if it pulls out easily, the seal is weak in that area. Clean the gasket with warm soapy water and dry.
- Inspect evaporator area: Remove the interior rear panel and check that the evaporator fan (if present) is not blocked by ice or insulation.
- Test defrost components (if equipped): With the unit unplugged, test the defrost heater and defrost thermistor for continuity and proper resistance. Replace any open components.
- Reassemble and monitor: After defrosting and any repairs, reassemble and run the unit. If heavy frost returns within a week, there may be a deeper defrost control issue requiring board replacement.
