Possible Causes
Worn evaporator fan motor bearings, Fan blade rubbing on housing due to misalignment, Ice buildup contacting fan blades
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the cooler before accessing the interior fan. Wear gloves to avoid cuts from sharp metal.
Steps:
- Access evaporator fan: Remove shelves and the interior rear panel to expose the fan assembly.
- Inspect for ice: If ice is present around the fan, fully defrost the unit and check defrost system and door gasket as needed.
- Check blade clearance: Spin the fan by hand and listen for scraping. Adjust the fan blade position on the motor shaft or reposition the shroud so the blades do not contact it.
- Replace fan motor: If the noise persists and the motor feels rough or has play in the shaft, replace the evaporator fan motor with a Magic Chef-compatible part.
