Possible Causes
Drifting or intermittent thermistor, Poor sensor placement or not clipped to wall, Control board calibration issues, Frequent door openings or unstable room temperature
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before accessing sensors or control boards.
Steps:
- Verify with separate thermometer: Place a reliable thermometer inside and log readings over 24–48 hours to confirm fluctuations.
- Check sensor mounting: Ensure the cabinet thermistor is properly clipped to the interior wall or evaporator cover as designed. A sensor hanging in free air can cause erratic control.
- Inspect wiring: Look for intermittent connections or damaged insulation along the sensor harness.
- Replace thermistor: If fluctuations persist and wiring looks good, replace the cabinet thermistor with a new Magic Chef-compatible sensor.
- Control board replacement: If a new sensor does not resolve the issue, the main control board's temperature regulation circuit may be faulty and should be replaced.
- Environmental control: Keep the cooler away from direct sunlight, ovens, or HVAC vents, and minimize door openings.
