Possible Causes
Open or shorted Peltier module, Dried or missing thermal paste between module and heat sinks, Failed DC power supply on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before disassembling the heat sink assembly.
Steps:
- Confirm thermoelectric design: Ensure your Magic Chef model is thermoelectric (no compressor present).
- Access Peltier module: Remove the rear cover and fan shroud to expose the aluminum heat sinks and the Peltier module sandwiched between them.
- Inspect wiring: Check the two wires feeding the Peltier module for secure connections and no burns.
- Test module (technician level): A professional can test the module with a DC power supply. If it draws no current or overheats quickly, it is defective.
- Replace Peltier module: Remove the old module, clean old thermal paste from both heat sink surfaces, apply a thin layer of new thermal compound, and install the new module in the same orientation.
- Check DC supply: If a new module does not cool, the DC power circuit on the control board may be faulty and the board should be replaced.
