Possible Causes
Failed cabinet thermistor, Thermistor wiring harness loose or damaged, Corroded thermistor connector on control board, Faulty main control board (PCB) temperature input circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the wine cooler or switch off the circuit breaker before removing any panels. Do not work on live circuits.
- 1. Power reset: Unplug the unit for 5 minutes, then plug back in to see if the E1 code clears. If it returns, continue.
- 2. Access the cabinet thermistor: The cabinet temperature sensor is usually clipped to the evaporator cover or mounted on the rear interior wall. Remove interior shelves and the rear plastic panel (inside the compartment) to expose the evaporator and sensor.
- 3. Inspect the sensor and wiring: Look for broken insulation, pinched wires, or a sensor that has come loose from its mounting clip. Reseat the connector at both the sensor and the main control board (behind the rear service panel).
- 4. Test the thermistor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the thermistor and measure its resistance with a multimeter. Compare to a typical NTC curve (for many Maytag coolers, ~10kΩ at 77°F/25°C). If it reads open (OL) or short (near 0Ω), replace the thermistor.
- 5. Check the control board: If the thermistor tests within spec and wiring is intact, the main control board’s sensor input may be defective. Inspect for burnt components or corrosion. Replacement of the control board is usually required if faulty.
- 6. Reassemble and test: Reinstall the interior panel, shelves, and rear cover. Restore power and verify that the E1 code is cleared and temperature is stable over several hours.
