Possible Causes
Loose compressor mounting grommets, Failing start relay chattering, Copper lines contacting cabinet, Condenser fan blade rubbing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before adjusting components near the compressor or fan.
- 1. Inspect compressor mounts: Remove the rear panel and check that rubber grommets and mounting bolts are intact and snug. Replace worn grommets.
- 2. Check copper tubing: Look for refrigerant lines touching the cabinet or each other. Gently bend them away to create clearance, taking care not to kink the tubing.
- 3. Examine condenser fan: Spin the fan by hand and listen for rubbing. Adjust the fan blade or shroud to eliminate contact.
- 4. Replace noisy start relay: If the buzzing coincides with compressor start attempts, replace the start relay/overload assembly.
