Possible Causes
Failed compressor start relay or PTC, Defective compressor windings, Loose or burnt compressor wiring, Faulty main control board relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance. The compressor and related components operate at mains voltage. Allow hot components to cool before touching.
F5 indicates a problem in the compressor start or run circuit.
- 1. Access the compressor compartment:
- Pull the wine cooler away from the wall.
- Remove the lower rear service panel to expose the compressor and control components.
- 2. Inspect the start device:
- Locate the start relay/PTC and overload protector mounted on the compressor terminals.
- Check for burn marks, melted plastic, or a burnt smell.
- 3. Check wiring:
- Ensure all spade connectors are tight on the compressor and start device.
- Look for discolored or brittle wires and replace if necessary.
- 4. Test the start device:
- With power off, remove the start relay/PTC from the compressor.
- Shake it gently; if it rattles excessively or shows signs of burning, replace it.
- 5. Test compressor windings (advanced):
- Using a multimeter, measure resistance between the three compressor pins.
- All readings should be finite and not shorted to ground. If windings are open or shorted, the compressor is defective.
- 6. Replace faulty parts:
- Install a new Miele-specified compressor start device/overload if defective.
- If the compressor is faulty, replacement requires a sealed-system technician with refrigeration certification.
- 7. Control board check: If the compressor and start device test good but F5 persists and the compressor never receives power, the main control board relay may be defective and should be replaced by a professional.
