Wine cooler beeps and displays E1, interior temperature is not cooling properly or is inaccurate.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the wine cooler or switch off the dedicated circuit breaker before removing any panels. Do not work on live circuits.
- Power reset: Disconnect power for 5 minutes, then restore power to see if the E1 code clears. Sometimes a transient fault can latch the error.
- Access the cabinet sensor: On most Monogram wine coolers, the cabinet thermistor is located behind the interior liner, often clipped to the evaporator cover or mounted on the rear wall. Remove the shelves and the interior back panel (usually a few Phillips screws).
- Inspect the sensor and wiring: Look for a small probe with two wires leading to it. Check for cuts, pinched wires, or corrosion at the connector. Reseat the connector at both the sensor and the main control board (usually located at the rear, behind the lower service panel).
- Test the thermistor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the thermistor from the harness and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature (~77°F / 25°C), most Monogram NTC sensors read around 5k–10k ohms. If the reading is open (OL) or near 0 ohms, the sensor is defective.
- Replace if defective: If readings are out of spec, replace the cabinet temperature sensor with the correct Monogram/GE part number for your model. Route the new sensor along the original path and secure it with clips or tape to avoid contact with moving parts or sharp edges.
- Check the control board: If the sensor tests good but E1 persists, inspect the main control board for burnt components or corrosion at the sensor input connector. If damage is visible or the board does not respond after a reset, replacement of the main control board is recommended.
If you are not comfortable testing electrical components, contact a qualified Monogram technician.
