Possible Causes

Failed evaporator thermistor, Broken or shorted sensor wiring near evaporator, Corroded connector at control board, Faulty main control board sensor circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before accessing internal components. Evaporator fins can be sharp; wear cut-resistant gloves.

  • Remove interior panels: Take out shelves and the interior rear panel to expose the evaporator assembly. On many Monogram wine coolers, the evaporator sensor is clipped directly to the evaporator tubing or fins.
  • Locate the sensor: Look for a small plastic-encased probe attached to the evaporator with a clip or tape, with two wires leading back to the harness.
  • Inspect wiring: Check for ice buildup around the sensor, broken insulation, or wires pulled tight. If the sensor is encased in heavy ice, allow the unit to fully defrost (doors open, towels in place) for several hours, then recheck.
  • Test resistance: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to the cabinet sensor spec (often similar NTC curve). If the reading is open, shorted, or far out of expected range, the sensor is defective.
  • Replace sensor: Install a new Monogram-compatible evaporator thermistor. Clip it securely to the evaporator in the same location to ensure accurate defrost and temperature control.
  • Check control board: If the sensor tests good and wiring is intact, inspect the main control board at the rear of the unit. Look for burnt traces or damaged components near the sensor input. Replace the board if necessary.

After replacement, restore power and monitor for several hours to confirm the E2 code does not return.
