Possible Causes

Failed defrost heater, Defective defrost thermistor, Faulty defrost control on main board, Door gasket leak allowing moist air in

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before defrosting or testing components.

  • Manual defrost: Remove all bottles, unplug the unit, and leave the door open until all ice melts. Use towels to catch water; do not use sharp tools to chip ice.
  • Inspect gasket: Check the door gasket for gaps or tears. Close the door on a sheet of paper at various points; if it pulls out easily, the seal is weak. Replace the gasket if needed.
  • Test defrost heater: Access the evaporator and locate the heater. With the unit unplugged, disconnect the heater and measure resistance. Replace if open.
  • Check defrost sensor: Test the defrost thermistor as described in the E4 scenario. Replace if out of spec.
  • Control board: If heater and sensor are good, the main control board may not be initiating defrost cycles and should be replaced.

After repair, monitor for several weeks to ensure frost does not return.
