Possible Causes

Failed cabinet NTC sensor, Broken or loose sensor wiring harness, Corroded connector on main PCB, Main control board misreading sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the Montpellier wine cooler from the mains before removing any panels. Do not work on live circuits.

  • Power reset: Disconnect power for 5–10 minutes, then reconnect. If E1 clears temporarily and returns, the sensor or wiring is likely faulty.
  • Locate the cabinet sensor: On most Montpellier wine coolers, the cabinet NTC sensor is clipped to the evaporator cover or mounted on the rear interior wall behind a small plastic cover. Remove interior shelves and the rear plastic panel if fitted.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the thin sensor wires from the sensor to the main PCB (usually behind the rear metal panel). Look for cuts, pinches, or signs of rodent damage. Reseat any in-line connectors.
  • Test the sensor: With a multimeter set to resistance (kΩ), measure across the sensor leads. A typical NTC will read between 5–50 kΩ depending on temperature. An open circuit (OL) or 0 Ω indicates a failed sensor.
  • Replace the sensor: If readings are abnormal, replace with a compatible Montpellier cabinet NTC sensor. Route the new sensor along the original path, avoiding sharp bends and hot components. Secure with clips or tape as originally installed.
  • Check the PCB connector: On the main control board, unplug and replug the sensor connector. Look for corrosion or bent pins. If the sensor tests good but E1 persists, the main PCB may be defective and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
