Possible Causes

Failed evaporator NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Damaged sensor harness, Faulty main control PCB input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the appliance before removing rear or interior panels. Edges of metal panels can be sharp; wear cut-resistant gloves.

  • Access the evaporator area: Remove interior shelves and the rear plastic evaporator cover inside the cabinet. On some Montpellier models, screws are hidden behind trim caps.
  • Locate the evaporator sensor: It is usually clipped or taped directly to the evaporator coil or embedded in foam near the coil. Note its original position for correct reinstallation.
  • Check mounting and condition: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the coil and not hanging loose. If it has fallen off, reattach using aluminum tape or the original clip and test operation.
  • Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor from the harness and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to the cabinet sensor if identical type; large deviation or open/short indicates failure.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the harness from the evaporator area to the main PCB (usually at the rear, behind the lower metal cover). Look for chafing where it passes through cabinet holes. Repair any damaged insulation and ensure grommets are in place.
  • Replace if faulty: Install a new Montpellier-compatible evaporator NTC sensor. Route and secure the harness away from the fan blade and sharp fins.
  • If E2 remains: If a known-good sensor is installed and wiring is intact, the main control board's sensor circuit may be defective and require replacement by a professional.
