Possible Causes
Open or shorted ambient NTC sensor, Sensor not correctly positioned near air intake, Harness damage between sensor and PCB, Faulty main PCB sensor channel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect mains power before accessing the control area or top/bottom panels.
- Identify sensor location: On many Montpellier wine coolers, the ambient sensor is located near the front grille or rear air intake, often behind a small vented cover.
- Visual inspection: Remove the grille or small cover and inspect the sensor capsule and wiring. Ensure it is not dangling into the compressor compartment or touching hot components.
- Check wiring continuity: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor from the PCB and test continuity and resistance. An infinite or zero reading indicates a failed sensor.
- Reposition sensor: If the sensor is working but placed incorrectly (e.g., touching condenser coil), reposition it so it measures true room air, not hot discharge air.
- Replace sensor if needed: Install a new Montpellier ambient NTC sensor, matching connector type. Secure it in the original mounting point.
- PCB evaluation: If a new sensor does not clear E3, the main control board may be misreading the sensor and should be tested or replaced by a technician.
