Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, Fan blade obstruction by ice or debris, Loose fan connector at PCB, Faulty fan driver on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before working inside the cabinet or rear compartment.

  • Listen for fan operation: After plugging in (briefly), you should normally hear a small fan running when cooling is active. If silent, unplug and proceed.
  • Access the fan: Remove interior shelves and the rear plastic panel to expose the evaporator fan assembly.
  • Check for obstructions: Inspect the fan blade for ice build-up, labels, or wiring contacting the blades. Clear any obstruction and ensure the blade spins freely by hand.
  • Inspect wiring: Confirm the fan connector is fully seated on the motor and at the main PCB. Look for corrosion or burnt pins.
  • Test fan motor: With a multimeter, check resistance across the fan motor leads. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. On DC fans, you may also briefly power with a suitable low-voltage DC supply for testing (only if you are competent to do so).
  • Replace fan: Install a new Montpellier-compatible evaporator fan motor and blade if necessary. Ensure correct airflow direction (usually indicated by arrows on the housing).
  • PCB diagnosis: If a known-good fan does not run and E6 remains, the main control board fan output may be defective and require replacement.
