Possible Causes
Normal defrost cycle indication, Failed defrost heater, Open defrost thermostat, Faulty defrost control on main board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing the evaporator area.
- Determine if normal: Some NEEDONE models briefly display dF during automatic defrost. If cooling resumes and no ice buildup occurs, this is normal.
- Check for ice buildup: If the rear interior wall is heavily frosted and dF remains, remove the interior rear panel to inspect the evaporator.
- Inspect defrost components: Look for a defrost heater attached to the evaporator and a defrost thermostat/thermal fuse clipped to the tubing. Check wiring for burns or breaks.
- Manual defrost: If the coil is encased in ice, fully defrost the unit by unplugging and leaving doors open for 12–24 hours. Protect floors with towels.
- Replace faulty parts: If frost quickly returns, the defrost heater, thermostat, or control board may be faulty. Replace the defective component with a NEEDONE-compatible part.
