Possible Causes
Open-circuit upper NTC sensor, Shorted upper NTC sensor, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Corroded connector at main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal components.
- Confirm symptom: Compare the displayed temperature with a separate thermometer placed in the upper zone for 30 minutes. If the display is blank or shows E1, proceed.
- Locate upper sensor: Inside the upper compartment, look for a small plastic cover or probe on the rear wall or side wall. Remove the cover (usually clipped or screwed).
- Inspect wiring: Check the sensor leads for cuts, pinches, or disconnection. Follow the wires toward the rear of the cabinet and ensure they are not damaged where they pass through the liner.
- Check board connection: Remove the rear service panel, locate the main control board, and find the connector labeled for the upper NTC/thermistor. Reseat the connector.
- Replace sensor if needed: If the wiring looks intact but E1 persists, replace the upper temperature sensor (NTC) with a compatible NEEDONE part. Route the new sensor along the original path and secure it away from the evaporator fan blades.
- Test: Restore power and verify that the error clears and the temperature displays normally.
