Possible Causes
Failed compressor start relay or PTC, Open thermal overload on compressor, Faulty main control PCB not sending start signal, Loose wiring at compressor terminals
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the appliance before accessing the compressor compartment. Sealed system work should be left to professionals.
Steps to check:
- Listen for compressor: After plugging in, listen at the back. If you hear only a brief click or nothing at all, the compressor may not be starting.
- Check for overheating: Carefully touch the compressor shell (briefly). If it is very hot, the overload may be tripping repeatedly.
- Inspect start device: Remove the rear lower panel and locate the start relay/PTC on the side of the compressor. Check for burn marks, rattling pieces inside, or melted plastic.
- Replace start device: If damaged, replace the start relay/overload assembly with a Neff-compatible part, matching the compressor model.
- Control board suspicion: If the compressor never receives power (verified by a technician with a meter), the main control PCB may be faulty and require replacement.
- Do not open refrigerant lines: If the compressor hums loudly and then stops, the compressor itself may be seized and must be replaced by a certified technician.
