Display shows E8 and the unit does not cool; compressor or Peltier module may not start.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before servicing. Cooling modules and heat sinks can be hot.
Steps (thermoelectric models):
- 1. Confirm model type: Many compact NutriChef wine coolers use thermoelectric (Peltier) modules instead of a compressor.
- 2. Access cooling module: Remove the rear panel to expose the aluminum heat sink and Peltier module assembly. There may be one or two modules depending on size.
- 3. Visual inspection: Look for burnt connectors, discoloration, or separated Peltier plates. Ensure the module is clamped tightly between the interior and exterior heat sinks with thermal pads or paste.
- 4. Electrical test: Disconnect the Peltier module and measure resistance across its leads. A typical module will show a few ohms. An open circuit or dead short indicates failure.
- 5. Replace module: If failed, install a compatible NutriChef Peltier cooling module. Clean old thermal compound and apply a thin, even layer of new thermal paste on both sides before clamping.
- 6. Check fan operation: Ensure the heat sink fan(s) run properly; poor airflow can overheat and damage the module.
- 7. Control board: If the module tests good but no voltage is supplied from the board when cooling is commanded, the control board driver circuit is likely defective and the board must be replaced.
Steps (compressor models): Similar logic applies, but focus on the compressor relay and power output from the control board.
