Possible Causes
Overheated compressor due to poor ventilation, Faulty compressor start relay or PTC, Failing compressor windings, Blocked condenser coil causing high pressure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Unplug the wine cooler before accessing the rear compartment. The compressor and condenser can be hot.
- Check ventilation: Ensure the Phiestina cooler has the required clearance around the sides, back, and top per the user manual. Built-in models must not have blocked front vents. Clear any obstructions and vacuum dust from the front or rear grille.
- Clean condenser coil: Remove the rear lower panel to access the condenser coil. Use a soft brush and vacuum to remove dust and lint from the coil and fan area. Improved airflow can reduce compressor temperature.
- Inspect compressor start device: With power disconnected, locate the start relay/PTC module attached to the side of the compressor. Remove its cover and check for burnt smell, melted plastic, or rattling pieces inside.
- Replace start relay if suspect: Order a compatible "Phiestina compressor start relay/PTC" for your model. Disconnect the old relay and overload protector, noting wire positions, and install the new parts firmly on the compressor terminals.
- Allow cool-down: If the compressor was very hot, let it cool for 30–60 minutes before restoring power.
- Test operation: Plug the unit back in and listen for the compressor starting smoothly. If E5 persists and the compressor hums then clicks off, the compressor itself may be failing and will require a professional sealed-system repair.
