Samsung wine cooler shows E6 and the compressor may not start or may shut off quickly.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing the compressor compartment. The compressor and start components operate at high voltage.
- 1. Listen for compressor behavior: When powered, does the compressor click on and off repeatedly, or stay silent? Repeated clicking often points to a start relay or overload issue.
- 2. Access rear compartment: Remove the rear lower cover to expose the compressor, start relay/PTC, and overload protector.
- 3. Inspect start components: Remove the start relay and overload from the compressor terminals. Shake the relay gently; if it rattles or shows burn marks, it is likely defective. Replace with a Samsung-compatible start device.
- 4. Test compressor windings (advanced): With all power disconnected and start components removed, measure resistance between the three compressor pins. You should see three finite readings and no shorts to ground. If windings are open or shorted, the compressor is faulty.
- 5. Check overload protector: Test for continuity across the overload device at room temperature. Replace if open.
- 6. Evaluate main PCB: If compressor and start components are good but the compressor never receives power, the main control board’s compressor relay may have failed.
Warning: Compressor replacement requires refrigerant handling and should only be performed by an EPA-certified technician.
