E8
Samsung Door Switch or Door Sensor Fault

Samsung wine cooler displays E8 and the interior light or control panel may behave abnormally.

Possible Causes

Defective magnetic reed switch or mechanical door switch, Misaligned door magnet, Broken door switch wiring, Main PCB door input failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit before removing any trim or control panels.

  • 1. Check door operation: Open and close the door while observing the interior light and display. If the light flickers or does not respond, the door switch may be faulty.
  • 2. Locate door switch: On many Samsung wine coolers, the door switch is located in the cabinet frame or integrated into the control panel area. Some models use a magnetic reed switch with a magnet in the door.
  • 3. Inspect magnet alignment: If your model uses a magnetic sensor, ensure the magnet in the door aligns properly with the sensor when closed. Adjust door hinges or magnet position if needed.
  • 4. Test switch continuity: With power disconnected, remove the switch and test it with a multimeter while pressing and releasing the actuator (or moving a magnet near a reed switch). Replace if it does not open and close reliably.
  • 5. Check wiring: Inspect the harness from the switch to the main PCB for breaks or loose connectors.
  • 6. Main PCB check: If the switch and wiring are good but E8 persists, the main control board’s door input circuit may be defective.

Note: A faulty door switch can also cause temperature issues because the fan or compressor may be disabled when the door is sensed as open.
