Display shows E6; interior fan may not run and temperature is uneven inside the cabinet.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal panels or the fan assembly.
Steps to address E6:
- Listen for fan operation: With the door closed and unit powered (before unplugging), listen for the evaporator fan. If silent while compressor runs, suspect a fan issue.
- Remove internal rear panel: After unplugging, remove the rear liner panel to access the evaporator and fan.
- Check for ice or obstructions: Ensure the fan blades can spin freely. Remove any ice buildup by defrosting the unit; do not chip ice with sharp tools.
- Inspect wiring: Verify the fan motor connector is firmly attached and wires are not damaged.
- Test fan motor: With a multimeter, check for continuity across the fan motor leads. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. On DC fans, you may also check for supply voltage from the PCB (only if you are qualified to test live circuits).
- Replace fan motor: If defective, install a new evaporator fan motor assembly designed for Siemens wine coolers. Ensure correct orientation and that the blades do not rub on housing.
If E6 remains with a new fan and good wiring, the main control PCB may have a failed fan driver and should be replaced by a technician.
