Possible Causes

Blocked condenser coils, Failed condenser fan motor, Faulty compressor start relay or overload protector

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the cooler before accessing the rear compartment. Avoid touching refrigerant lines when hot.

Steps:

  • Check ventilation: Ensure there is at least the manufacturer‑recommended clearance around the sides, back, and top of the cooler. Do not enclose it tightly in cabinetry without proper venting.
  • Clean condenser: Remove the rear lower service panel. Use a soft brush and vacuum to clean dust from the black condenser coils and surrounding area.
  • Verify condenser fan operation: With the panel off, plug the unit back in and start cooling. The condenser fan (near the compressor) should run whenever the compressor runs. If the fan does not run, inspect for obstructions and test the fan motor; replace if defective.
  • Inspect start relay/overload: Unplug again. Remove the plastic cover on the side of the compressor. Check the start relay and overload protector for signs of burning or rattling pieces inside when gently shaken. Replace the start device assembly if damaged.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit the rear panel, restore power, and monitor for several hours. If E5 returns quickly and the compressor is extremely hot to the touch, a sealed system or compressor issue may exist and requires a professional.
