Possible Causes
Misaligned door magnet, Failed reed switch in cabinet frame, Loose or damaged sensor wiring, Warped door or hinge misalignment
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing trim or accessing the door switch wiring.
Steps to address DOOR alarm:
- Check physical closure: Ensure no shelves, bottles, or racks are preventing the door from closing fully. Verify the door is flush with the cabinet on all sides.
- Inspect hinges: Check that the hinges are tight and not sagging. Adjust or tighten hinge screws as needed so the door aligns correctly.
- Locate the magnet and reed switch: On many SMEG wine coolers, a small magnet is embedded in the door edge and a reed switch is hidden in the cabinet frame. Verify the magnet is present and not loose.
- Test the reed switch: With power off, access the switch wiring and test continuity while moving a magnet near the switch location. If the switch does not change state, replace it.
- Replace faulty components: Install a new SMEG door reed switch or magnet as required. Ensure correct positioning so the magnet passes directly over the switch when the door is closed.
Tip: After repair, confirm that the alarm stops within a few seconds of closing the door.
