Possible Causes
Failed LED light module, Faulty door switch or reed sensor, Damaged wiring to light assembly, Defective light driver circuit on main control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect the appliance from mains before working on the light assembly or control board.
Steps to address E8:
- Check door operation: Open and close the door while observing the light. If the light never turns off, the door switch or reed sensor may be stuck or misaligned.
- Inspect the door switch: Some SMEG wine coolers use a magnetic reed switch hidden in the cabinet frame and a magnet in the door. Verify the door closes fully and the gasket is not preventing proper contact.
- Test the switch: With power off, access the switch (if serviceable) and test continuity while placing a magnet near it. Replace the switch if it does not change state.
- Check the LED module: Remove the interior light cover and inspect the LED board for burn marks or discoloration. If the light never comes on and E8 is present, the LED module may be open-circuit.
- Replace faulty components: Install a new SMEG LED light module or door switch as required. Ensure all connectors are firmly seated.
- Control board evaluation: If both switch and LED module are good, the main control PCB's light driver may be defective and require replacement.
Tip: Avoid touching LED chips directly with fingers; use gloves to prevent contamination.
